It's Storm Szn on the Canadian Prairie!
It’s hard to resist the urge to head outdoors, for us, when reports start rolling in about active weather in the area. Forces of nature in any shape are endlessly fascinating (even in winter!) so watching stormy formations and drama build up and explode high above is exhilarating! We always exercise an abundant degree of caution (hey, we like being alive), and encourage other outdoor enthusiasts, storms or otherwise, to do the same. Save some thrills for another day, right?
An unexpected bonus of living under the wide open prairie skies (as opposed to the awe-inducing mountains) is the opportunity to see ever-evolving drama play out across the canvas above us. Watching a storm system build up and gather momentum as it rolls across the endless horizon is really something to behold.
What struck me the most as I reviewed the images above as they loaded from the camera to the computer is just how massive those clouds are compared to the tiny buildings below them. It’s a great reminder of how far a healthy respect for the forces of nature goes.
A Little Storm Love Over The Years

Observing Creative Inspiration
Last time I talked about finding a spot, settling in, finding a quiet breath, and then observing the space you’re in, seeing what catches your attention or interest.
Today I want us to pay attention to the light, right now.
Notice the objects around you, and then change your focus to really look at what the light landing on or wrapping around those objects does. How does it feel? Soft? Warm? Harsh? Cold?
Find time in the next 8 weeks to find yourself in that spot at different times of day. How has the light changed, how has the way the environment feels changed?
You may notice while you’re taking this time that you feel a little more at ease in yourself afterwards. Cool huh? Keep going!
(Keep breathing!)
*This month is a 2-Fer!! That’s right, TWO creative prompts for the price of…well…nothing! Keep reading till you hit the second prompt. You’ll know it when you see it*
I was surprised and honoured to find out that something I shared had inspired someone else to create a work of art. You just never know how your words or actions are received by anyone else. Incredible rendering of such adorable wildlife subjects Shirley! I LOVE how you adapted Mr Porcupine’s scene to be summery, replacing the cold wintry vibe, and your colours and brushstrokes are beautiful together.
Happy Summer to you all, and Happy Creating!
